The entry period for the 19th annual Human Rights Press Awards opens today. Submissions will be accepted until the deadline of Friday, January 9, 2015. Journalistic works published or broadcast during the 2014 calendar year are eligible. Details and entry forms are available at HumanRightsPressAwards.org.
The Awards are the most prominent rights-related prizes of their kind in the region. They are organized by the Foreign Correspondents’ Club Hong Kong (F.C.C.), Amnesty International Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Journalists Association.
The opening of the entry period is being marked by a cocktail reception tonight at the F.C.C., including prominent figures in the fields of journalism, law, politics and human rights.
The Awards are announcing several new developments.
• The H.R.P.A. have launched a new website at HumanRightsPressAwards.org.
• For the first time in the Awards’ history, a cash prize will be given.
HK $3,000 will go to the winner in five categories:
English-language print & text
Chinese-language print & text
English-language broadcast
Chinese-language broadcast
Photography
• The Awards is starting a fundraising drive
