The Hong Kong Journalists Association (HKJA) expressed great concern and regret over the Macau government’s denial of entry to more than 10 Hong Kong journalists during the past week, ahead of Macau’s Legislative Assembly election on 17 September.
The journalists were from Apple Daily. It is believed that the rejections were related to the territory’s Legislative Assembly election. On 26 August, two journalists from Apple Daily, one journalist from HK01, and another from SCMP had been denied entry to Macau. They had planned to cover the clean-up work in Macau after the enclave was severely hit by Typhoon Hato.
HKJA has sent mails to its members enquiring about any previous cases of media workers being denied entry to Macau and has asked them to inform HKJA about such cases. HKJA will also send letters to the Macau government and the Security Bureau of the Hong Kong government to demand an explanation for why the journalists from Hong Kong were denied entry to Macau.
