With the closer relationship between Hong Kong and the mainland, local journalists are covering mainland news more frequently. It is easy for journalists to get into trouble given that many restrictions have been imposed by the mainland on reporting by Hong Kong and Macau journalists and the numerous grey areas in the mainland legal system. The earlier case of Xi Yang and the recent accusation of spying against Ching Cheong have aroused great concern and worry from both international and local media. This seminar will discuss the laws and administrative regulations governing journalistic work in China. We hope that members can become aware of the pitfalls by increasing their knowledge of the restrictions imposed on their reporting on the mainland.
